I regret to inform you that this “Orange Festival” is not taking place in the Netherlands. First, Orange in reference to the Netherlands refers to the monarchs; they are the House of Orange. The Orange Festival in the Netherlands, also called Queens Day, results in people wearing the Orange color and getting excessively drunk and silly. It does NOT result in people making sculptures out of fruit.
Second, the pictures clearly indicate architecture, landscape and language that is not Dutch. Many pictures have mountains. The Netherlands is flat. It is mostly reclaimed land from the sea meaning it is below sea level. The Netherlands does not have mountains. This festival took place where they have mountains.
Next, look at the signs written in fruit. The sentence "Les Contes de Perrnalt” This is not Dutch, but it is French. It means "The Tales of Perrnalt." Lastly, the buildings are very modern and this is generally not the architecture found in the Netherlands, although there are exceptions such as cities like Rotterdam. Also, citrus does not grow in the Netherlands so there is no association with the fruit orange and the House of Orange.
So where is this festival taking place? It is in the South of France where they actually grow citrus. It is from the Festival Citrusov. Sorry if you think this rains on your parade, but credit should be given where credit is due and these pictures are NOT from the Netherlands. Celebrate the French – they made some cool scenes and sculptures. I certainly would not have minded being in the South of France and seeing this festival. They really are creative.
